The Short Version
I'm Nicky Stixx — writer, content creator, and the resident neurotypical (NT) in a household where my husband and son are autistic, and my daughter very likely is too, just undiagnosed. I've spent 26 years learning, adjusting, getting things wrong, getting things right, and slowly figuring out how to build a life that genuinely works for all of us.
I write about all of it — the messy, the honest, the unglamorous, and the unexpectedly hopeful. No clinical distance, no jargon for the sake of it. Just real talk from someone who's lived it.
Why I Write This
When my husband and son were diagnosed, I was handed very little beyond a label and a leaflet. Everything else — the understanding, the strategies, the sense of "oh, that's what's going on" — I had to find for myself, usually the hard way, often years later than I'd have liked.
This space exists so that other NT partners, parents, and family members don't have to do that alone. Whether you're brand new to a diagnosis or 20 years into this life and still figuring it out (that's most of us, by the way), I want this to feel like a hand on your shoulder rather than another thing to get right.
What I'm Up To
Beyond the blog, here's where you'll find me and what I'm building:
- Love, Parenting & Autism — my book, drawn from 26 years of lived experience, available in paperback and Kindle on Amazon.
- This blog — honest posts on autism, NT life, sensory tools, self-care, and the stuff in between.
- LingaLonga Art — a bespoke handmade wedding stationery and décor business I run with my daughter Alyssa, serving the Mallorca market.
I'm based in Mallorca, Spain — sunshine, sea, and a household that keeps me on my toes in the best possible way.
Want the full story?
My book covers all of it — the early days, the hard lessons, and the things I wish someone had told me sooner.
